Tinnitus is known for the ringing, clicking, buzzing, or hissing sounds a person might experience. People with severe tinnitus may have problems hearing, working, or even sleeping.
Finding out what’s causing tinnitus is the first step in treating it. Possible causes include:
- pressure in the inner ear
- cognitive and emotional factors
- a reactionTrusted Source to the loss of sensory hair cells
- change in interactions between neural circuits in the ear and other parts of the brain
Studies show that Ginkgo biloba can effectively improve patients with tinnitus caused by ischemia. Ischemia is a restriction in blood supply to any tissues, muscle group, or organ of the body, causing a shortage of oxygen that is needed for cellular metabolism (to keep tissue alive).
Ginkgo biloba contains several active compounds (flavonoids, bilobalide, lactones, and terpenoids), which can increase blood flow through the micro capillaries that feed the inner ear and cochlea by dilating the blood vessels and reducing the “stickiness” of the blood.
