Cellulite refers to dimples or other textural changes in skin that develop when fat cells push through the second layer of skin, called the dermis. Cellulite often affects the buttocks, thighs, and abdomen.
More than 85 percent of females older than 21 have cellulite, but males rarely develop it. Cellulite can develop regardless of age or weight, though it becomes more common with increasing age.
Cellulite damages collagen bands within the skin. Taking supplementary collagen may help repair these and other structures and boost metabolism within dermal cells.
There have been a few clinical trials that shows a direct correlation between collagen peptides and cellulite specifically. In one clinical study, women who received collagen peptides daily for 6 months showed a decrease in cellulite compared to the placebo group, which stayed the same.
